Abstract: I will review some recent work on the understanding of 3d gravity and its dual description which seems to be an ensemble of 2d CFTs. I will then describe the extension of several aspects to allow CFTs living on bordered Riemann surfaces, i.e., BCFTs. We will see that the bulk theory becomes richer, and in some cases, we can explicit solve the bulk side to find an exact match between the bulk and a boundary description.
